Matthew – Seed and Soil
Continuing our journey through Matthew, we focus on chapters 8-13 which looks at how humanity responds to Jesus. Jesus comes down from the mountain and encounters all sorts of different people. This series culminates in the parable of the sower. It asks, if the word of God is like seed, what kind of soil will we be? Will we reject him, follow him half-heartedly or fully follow him?
The wise and foolish bridesmaids
Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids to help us feel what his second coming will be like.
Martin takes us through the story with its compelling and challenging meaning for our lives now.
Matthew 24 'It’s not the end of the world'
In Matthew 24 Jesus promises that he will return; Marcellus looks at what that means for our lives.
Keeping Our Eyes On The Coach
Marcellus looks at a moment in Matthew’s gospel where Jesus tells off the disciples and then coaches them to take part in the extreme sport of discipleship.
Faith encounters with Jesus
Martin looked at an encounter a woman with bad family problems has with Jesus. The story and the outcome teach us about both the power of Jesus in desperate situations, and how to pray.
Fear is the absence of faith
Luke looked at Matthew 14 and how fear conceals what faith reveals.
When we look at the circumstances of life without faith our hearts will be paralysed with fear.
And when we become fearful and try and to look at Jesus, fear can distort our view of Him and He becomes unrecognisable.
Faith helps banish fear and allows us to see Jesus clearly.
Jesus the forsaken son
Luke talked about Jesus being forsaken in our place on the cross, so that we could be restored to a right relationship with God.
Bruised reeds and smouldering wicks
Martin looks at some astonishing verses in Matthew's gospel. He looks at how Jesus loves those who feel most valueless and empty, and how he brings healing and transformation in our lives.
